      A success story:
      On 1 September 1961, Karl Voss founded Mineralmahlwerk Hamm with the goal of trading and processing mineral raw materials from around the world.

      The 60s and 70s

      The company continued to grow, adding more mineral mills, as well as milling grinding of lithium ore and zirconium oxide and processing recycled refractory, materials used in the steel and glass industries.

    • The 80s

      Whereas the processing of refractory raw materials from China became increasingly important, the interest in recycled building materials began to decline.

      The 90s

      The amount of processed material reached 230,000 tonnes per year.

      1998

      Stefan Frevel took over as General Manager.

      2006

      QM system certification ISO 9001:2008 for the first time.

      New mixing plant was set up for the manufacture of MgO mixes. 

    • 2009

      A new plant for the processing of chromite sand was built.

      2011

      Tim Grottendieck became part of the management team.

      2012

      The chromite sand division was set up as the independent company HAG Handels- und Aufbereitungsgesellschaft für Mineralien mbH.

      Mineralmahlwerk Hamm employs 55 people who work in three shifts and manage to produce 180,000 tonnes p.a. working at three crushing plants and seven processing plants.

      All processing plants are equipped with dryers, modern screening machines and ball mills. Furthermore, a mixing station is available to provide MgO masses to the steel industry.

      MMW occupies a total area of 70,000 m², whereof 50,000 m² is used for the storage of minerals including 20,000 m² of roofed area.

      As we are located at the port of Hamm, the canal port in Europe with the highest turnover of goods, we have the ideal logistical connections to some of  Europe’s most important seaports in Rotterdam, Antwerp and Amsterdam. Raw materials are delivered to us from all over the world using the Dutch waterway network: the Rhine, the Wesel-Datteln canal and the Datteln-Hamm canal.

      It takes about one and a half days for a barge to travel the distance of approx. 
      300 km from the seaports to Hamm.

      We can also be reached very easily by road.
      Mineralmahlwerk Hamm is conveniently located near some major motorways making for easy connections to the A1 to the north and south of Germany and the A2 to the west and east of Germany.

    • Industry partner

      Our products are used in various industries.
      Many of our processed refractory materials are used in the steel industry. Our refractory, extremely heat-resistant materials are furthermore used in foundries and in the production of foundry auxiliaries. These qualities are instrumental in the construction of kilns and furnaces.


      Some materials are of particular interest for welding technology because of their composition and properties, such as low sulphur and phosphorus content.

      We have plenty of space at our property in Hamm. More than 200,000 tonnes of your material will be stored in an area of approximately 50,000 m2, with the larger part of 150,000 tonnes in a roofed building. This way, the raw materials – especially magnesite – are protected from moisture.

      In addition, approximately 2,000 tonnes of processed materials can be stored in silos.

    • ON ONE PRODUCTION LINE

      In our three crushing plants, blocks with an edge length of up to one metre can be crushed.

      In preparation, sorting occurs in seven facilities combining drying, grinding and screening. Four processing lines are available for MgO products, while another three are available for Al2O3 products.

      Six ball mills are available for grinding the minerals. According to customer requirements minerals can be ground in the range between 40 µm and 500 µm. Due to our extremely flexible screening facilities, graded minerals can vary from 0–0.2 to 8–15 mm.

      In general, we offer our service based on your specifications.

      Throughout all our plants, our total capacity exceeds 200,000 tonnes per annum.

      The company’s own up-to-date chemical testing lab performs precise quality control checks on all materials, both raw and processed. This ensures that all norms and specifications requested by the customer will be met.

      The lab establishes chemical analyses using x-ray fluorescence (XRF). Important properties such as bulk density and raw density, acid consumption, pH values and more can also be determined.

      Upon arrival at Mineralmahlwerk Hamm, all raw materials undergo a thorough verification process before being placed in storage. The sieve lab is available for around-the-clock production control. Here, the particle size distribution and the grinding fineness are determined. Our test lab consistently guarantees a high-quality product. We are more than happy to provide written confirmation upon request.
